I am not a professional photographer, but one of the things I learned from a few books ("How to photograph your family" and "How to photograph your baby") is to get close and get the essence of your subject. This image (IMG_1029) with the close-up is really good because it reveals the beauty and friendliness of the person in the image. Try cropping some of your other images to get the bare essentials and you will surely enjoy the results.
